About

b. 1975
Ben Krupka is a studio artist living and working in rural Western Massachusetts. Raised in Columbia, Maryland, he received his MFA from Utah State University and his BFA from Frostburg State University. Prior to focusing exclusively on his studio practice, he was a Professor of Art at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, where he taught for more than twenty years.

Krupka’s work is rooted in a lifelong commitment to making. His pots are simple and functional in design yet sensual and deliberately unrefined. They record the evidence of human touch: the marks of the maker and the preservation of a moment. Through references to ceramic history, his work pays homage to those who came before while remaining grounded in contemporary studio practice.

He has been an artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation and Red Lodge Clay Center and has taught workshops nationally and internationally. Notably, he served as a resident artist and visiting faculty member at Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.

Krupka’s work has been exhibited at galleries, art centers, colleges, and museums and is held in numerous public and private collections. His work and writing have been published in national and international periodicals and books, including Ceramics Art & Perception, Ceramics Monthly, and Clay Times.
